Aiming for a greener future and to promote and educate companies on how to achieve it, we not only talk the talk but also walk the walk. To show you how we do our part in the fight against climate change, we listed the different green initiatives that are part of our daily business.
We Recycle
In our office, recycling is being paid a big attention! We have special recycling bins in different locations around our office and we try to be as strict as possible when we dispose our waste. We also educate our new office members that recycling is part of our office culture and habits, thus helping others to learn what the benefits of it are. But what are they?
According to EPA (2017) recycling:
- Reduces the amount of waste sent to landfills and combustion facilities
- Conserves natural resources such as timber, water, and minerals
- Prevents pollution by reducing the need to collect new raw materials
- Saves energy
One thing we learned while trying to improve our recycling methods: not everything that seems recycle is actually recyclable. For example – your paper Coffee2Go cup is an environmental nightmare. Most are made from cardboard with a thin layer of plastic tightly attached to the cup to keeps your drink warm and prevents the cup from becoming soggy. But it also makes it non-recyclable. It takes about 20 years for such a cup to decompose.
This is why we strongly recommend to follow the “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” Rule and to minimize the total amount of garbage produced.
We are Paperless
CO2Cards is focused on being a paperless company with a paperless office! How we do it? We write everything on computers and we try to avoid paper use as much as possible. Why we do this? Do you know that World consumption of paper has grown 400 percent in the last 40 years. Now nearly 4 billion trees or 35 percent of the total trees cut around the world are used in paper industries on every continent (Ecology, 2011). Now imagine how many CO2 emissions could have been reduced with the cut trees and how many forests are being destroyed for such useless needs. In a world where computers are part of our everyday life, why do we need to cut tress to use paper? Well, in our opinion, we don’t!
We are Energy-efficient
We are part of the Start2Act organization which helps SMEs and young startups cut costs and reduce energy use through simple and easy tricks that provide high levels of efficiency! For example, we use glasses instead of cups, we turn our computers off at night, we use energy saving bulbs and so on. There are numerous ways to improve your energy efficiency with everyday action. Get in touch if you need some advise on this, we are always open to share our experience.
We also try to use office equipment that is green and Eco thus making every part of our work location as environmentally-friendly as possible!
We Offset our Carbon Emissions
Although we try to be as green as possible, we as a company still produce some unavoidable CO2 emissions. These can stem from the transport to work, the food we eat and the unavoidable materials we use in our everyday life such as plastic and metal. Acknowledging the existence of these carbon dioxide emissions, we offset them through one of the projects that we offer to our customers. Having calculated the produced CO2 emissions from our workforce, we compensate the same amount through supporting a carbon saving project in Lao, dedicated to improving the cookstoves, thus making them a sustainable development tool. Find more information about the project here. and join our cause!
We Spread Green Ideas
We also believe, educating and spreading green ideas is the gate to a greener feature and to maximising your impact. We are an active part of GreenBuzz Sofia and help organising events on different sustainability topics. Interested in our events – Click here to learn more.
